Hey guys,
So sorry for the delay in this month’s Glossybox review.. things have been a bit CRAY down here in Sleepingbootay world! I’m actually going to be moving into my own apartment in the next few weeks so I’m busy trying to get everything all organised! But aaaanyway, enough with the chit-chat and on to the Glossybox goss!

This month’s box’s theme was “International Superstars” celebrating “hero products from around the world for you to try”.

- Alessandro Pro White Original Effect Polish (samplesized): “Optically brightening effect nail polish with anti-yellowing formula for radiant white and gleaming nails” (fullsize £7.85)
We all know how much I love and am sliiiiiightly obsessed with painting my nails…and I’m always excited to see and try out new nail products…this nail whitener was no exception. I’ve used the Sally Hansen nail whitener before and I really really liked it so I was interested to see how this one measured up against it. I’ve only used this product once…and so far I like it! It’s nothing hugely amazing and it didn’t make me gasp in awe.. but it certainly does the job at whitening your nails. This would be great for someone who paints their nails quite a bit but who wants to go au natural (without the yucky nail polish stains).

- VALENTINO Assoluto, Eau de Parfum (samplesized): ” Valentina Assuluto Eau de Parfum is an intentionally seductive, intense, beautiful feminine fragrance by Valentino” (fullsize £61)
Nothing much to say about this product really…A perfume sample is a perfume sample after all. I really like this scent. Quite grown up,mainly quite floral with a hint of fruity-ness… gawd i’m awful at describing scents! ha! I always like to see perfume samples as I find they are so handy to just keep in my purse and bring with me on days out etc. I’d definitely consider purchasing the full-sized version of this loveliness.

- DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (samplesized): ” This revolutionary water-soluble cleanser is better than any other make-up remover you’ve ever tried” (fullsize £18.50)
Siiiigh…another lovely looking product that I’m too afraid to try out. We all know by now, that with my super sensitive skin, I’m waaaay too wary (and a little bit of a wuss) to try out new skin products. This cleansing oil looks really lovely and luxurious and i’m really intrigued to see how it works. I might pass this on to one of my friends and get her to roadtest it for me and i’ll report back because I think this product looks too nice to waste.

- VERA VALENTI L’ombre a Paupiere Margarita (full size): ” An eyeshadow palette offering a selection of ten different colours with an applicator included” (fullsize £3.95)
To be honest, I was completely shocked to see this product in Glossybox. Glossybox is meant to be about sampling luxury products and this eyeshadow palette retails at £3.95 and isn’t exactly what you would call “luxury”. My first impressions was that it looked like those pretend make-up sets that you get as a little girl from a pound shop. The packaging is very cheap and tacky looking and something I would never expect to see in any adult girl’s make-up bag.. never mind a Beauty Box! The eyeshadow itself is even worse than the packaging! The colours are not something I would ever ever wear AND the formula is extremely chalky and the colour pay off is close to non-existant! Overall, I am really disappointed and confused with this product. Bad glossybox…bad!!

- Lipcote (full size): ” The original lipstick sealer and secret of long lasting, feather fade and water resistant lipstick” (fullsize £3.99)
This was the only product of the box that I actually recognised and have used before…and for the plain simple reason that I cannot and will not ever forget this product (and not in a good way). I bought this product about 2years ago as I was on the hunt for something to keep my lipstick stay. I found Lipcote in Superdrug.. it was cheap and I’d heard of the name..so I bought it. That evening, popped it on over my favourite lippy and then my world turned dark… Bloody’el does this product sting! And not just the nice little tingly feeling…no no.. it actually really really stings. It does keep your lipstick on.. but at a very painful cost. I really don’t think it’s worth it and I doubt applying anything with that much chemicals is really good for your lips. I’d much rather just re-apply my lippy thanks very much!

- Glossybox Lipstick in Glossy Pink (Bonus product: full size): ” Professional beauty lipstick for soft and glamorous lips with a luminous, long-lasting colour” (fullsize £9.50)
Hurrah for another bonus product! We love bonus products over here at Sleepingbootay land and this time it was a real good’un! I was really happy when I saw this lipstick in this month’s box. I’m a huge lipstick junkie and I’m always happy to try out new brands and colours. The colour is really pretty and kinda unusual…so I’m happy to introduce it to my lipstick family. The formula is also really nice, slightly creamy and very nicely pigmented. They’ve definitely redeemed themselves in my eyes after their blush brush failure in the June box. Keep up the good work Glossybox!

Overall thoughts: I hate to say it, but I’m pretty disappointed with August’s box offerings. Being the “international superstars” edition I really had high hopes for the products entailed and assumed that the countries involved would have better to offer as their “hero products”. My favourite product probably has to be the Glossybox lipstick which I can already tell I’ll get quite a bit of wear out of. My least favourite product is pretty darn obvious but I’ll say it anyway, that darn eyeshadow palette *shakes fist at Glossybox*. Looking forward to next month’s box and I’m optimistic and hopeful that they’ll pick up the standard again!
Have any of you received August’s Glossybox? What were your thoughts? Favourite/least favourite products?? I’d love to hear all!
Thanks for reading guys,
Until next time, Bye Kx:)
I was so disappointed on behalf of any GB subscribers when I saw what was in the August box! That was one thing I knew would annoy me when I unsubbed, looking at blog posts of the latest box in case it was amazing and I was annoyed I unsubbed, but having read not only your post but others too it seems everyone was disappointed with it. You know it’s bad when the best product in the box is a lipstick the company made themselves! Doesn’t really compare to last month’s one, does it?
I’m definitely interested to see what Septembers one is like, I hope your get a good one next time!
Emma x
bust! cleansing oil looks nice though x
I agree… really gutted that I can’t (am too scared to) try out the cleansing oil.. looks so lovely! But i’m gonna pass it on to my friend (who has more normal skin ha) and once she’s properly tried it out, I’ll report back to you with her thoughts! 🙂
sounds great look forward to review! x
Thanks for the review. It seems the versions sent outside the US are different than the ones sent to US customers. I did a post on my blog a couple months ago about “sampling services” and decided Glossybox was a “No” for me. But you never know with girls who love products: I could change my mind! Here’ the post if your or your readers are interested, although it’s targeted at the US market: http://wp.me/pdZEs-3K
Hi there, Yeah I read a good few US blogs and I think a lot of the American Beauty boxes seem to be a lot better than the ones we get over here in the EU. I think all Beauty Boxes though are a gamble.. some products are really great and others are just darn awful… but guess thats part of the surprise and the mystery! Thanks so much for sharing your link.. going to go and give it an ol’ read now! 🙂 x
I got the same box as you and I’ve written my review today (stupid holiday!) over at insertsuitabletitle.wordpress.com – I was so disappointed this month. I’ve been umming and ahhing about whether to cancel or not for quite a while and this, unfortunately, has pushed me over the edge. Luckily, I have just subscribed to another beauty box, which looks more promising!
I know it’s hard for them to fulfil everyone’s yays, but they make us fill out a questionnaire before we subscribe, so I would prefer some personal products that are suitable for ME. Even though we’ve got the same box, I bet our skin type is different, our tastes in perfume may be different (although don’t get me started on perfume samples!) and our skin colouring may be different for us both having the same lippy! I don’t know, maybe I’m just being a precious customer… 🙂
Lovely post as always, my dear 🙂 x
Hi there, I found your blog by the use of Google whilst searching for a related matter, your web site came up, it appears great. I’ve added to favourites|added to bookmarks.
an eyeshadow palette containing 6 beige/browns and 4 greens. although the packaging of this is VERY tacky and cheap looking, I thought I could put it to some use as I wear a selection of neutral eyeshadows on a daily basis, but the quality of this is just horrific. All of the shadows are incredibly powdery, and give virtually no colour payoff whatsoever. I wasn’t expecting the sponge applicatior that comes with it to be particularly great, but I tried to swatch with it and it doesn’t pick up any product at all! It really does look and feel like “toy makeup” that I got with one of those plastic doll heads that you used to be able to get and apply makeup on. Awful.
My She Said Beauty Box subscription finished so I signed up for 6 months of GlossyBox – I hope they’re not all this lame 😦
